Shahrukh Khan (born 2 November 1965) often credited as Shah Rukh Khan and informally referred to as SRK, is an Indian film actor. Known as "The King of Bollywood", Khan has acted in over 70 Hindi films. He began his career appearing in several television serials in the late 1980s and made his film debut in Deewana (1992) which won him the Filmfare Best Debut Award. The following year, he appeared in the critically acclaimed crime triller Baazigar, for which he earned his first Filmfare Best Actor Award. Khan has subsequently won fifteen Filmfare Awards, and holds the record for receiving the most Filmfare Best Actor Awards along with Dilip Kumar, eight wins. He has also won six IIFA Awards including "The Star of the Decade Award", eight Zee Cine Awards of which six are for Best Actor (also a record), thirteen Star Screen Awards, three Bollywood Movie Awards, two Global Indian Film Awards and many other awards and was nominated for Best Actor at the Asian Film Awards.

In addition to achieving merit honours, Khan has been awarded several national and international honours which include Best Indian Citizen Award in 1997, the Padma Shri, India's fourth highest civilian award from the Government of India in 2005. He was honoured with Rajiv Gandhi Award for "Excellence in the Field of Entertainment" in 2002. In April 2007, a life-size wax statue of Khan was installed at Madame Tussauds Wax Museum, London. There are also statues in Hong Kong and New York. Another statue was installed at the Musée Grévin in Paris, the same year. During the same year, he was accorded the Ordre des Arts et des Lettres (Order of the Arts and Literature) award by the French government for his “exceptional career”. The same year, Khan was conferred the Darjah Mulia Seri Melaka which carries the honorable Datuk (in similar fashion to "Sir" in British knighthood). He was also honoured with an honorary doctorate in arts and culture from Britain's University of Bedfordshire in 2009. In 2011, he was declared by GQ Men of the Year Awards as a "Cinematic Icon" and was honored with L’Etoile d’Or by Mohammed VI of Morocco the King of Morocco during the 11th International Film Festival of Marrakech. In 2012 He was honored with The Chubb fellowship at Yale University.

He has also been featured regularly in the listing of the most powerful names of Indian Cinema. in 2004, Khan was awarded the Filmfare Power Award for topping the Filmfare list of the "Ten Most Powerful Names of Bollywood", and again in 2005. In 2006 he was ranked the most powerful actor in Bollywood and second overall behind Yash Chopra and his son Aditya and, an achievement he would go on to repeat till 2009. He was among the 10 recipients of the IIFA-FICCI Frames Awards for the "Most Powerful Entertainer of the Decade". In 2008, Newsweek named him one of the 50 most powerful people in the world.

Filmfare Awards

The Filmfare Awards are presented annually to honour both artistic and technical excellence of professionals in the Hindi language film industry of India. The ceremony was first introduced in 1954 and is one of the oldest and most prominent film events given for Hindi films in India. The Filmfare Awards have been often referred to as Hindi film industry's equivalent to the Oscars. Khan has received fifteen awards,eight of which are in Best actor,which is film like Baazigar, Dilwale Dulhania Le Jayenge, Dil To Pagal Hai, Kuch Kuch Hota Hai, Devdas, Swades, Chak De India & My Name Is Khan category (a record shared with Dilip Kumar) and a Special Trophy from the Swiss Consulate, from thirty nominations.
